Podcast with Ethanol Author David Blume on Higher Ethanol Blends and Air Pollution

BioFuels Journal interviewed David Blume, founder and Executive Director of International Institute for Ecological Agriculture (IIEA), on March 30.

Blume is a globally renowned permaculture and biofuels expert and author of the Amazon.com best selling book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas!"

BioFuels Journal discussed higher blends of ethanol in gasoline and how that relates to air pollution issues.

Highlights From the Podcast

• Book originally written in 1983 as a PBS series, but stopped at the printing press when PBS donors objected to the competition for the petroleum industry.

• Book resurrected and researched again, selling 30,000 copies on Amazon.com.

• As long as we have sunlight, we can produce ethanol on a stable, ongoing basis without air pollution and greenhouse gasses.

• Exhaustive studies were conducted in the early 1980s. Blume’s testing of jet engines using alcohol fuels showed no exhaust pollutants.

• Higher blends of ethanol, including E15, significantly reduce air pollution such as the three major air pollutants, nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbon.

• E100 is 99% better than gasoline in all three major air pollutants.
